The Sky Bet Championship returns with a bang on Tuesday night as Wolverhampton Wanderers FC welcome Portsmouth FC to Molineux for a clash that could have significant implications at both ends of the promotion race. With just three points separating the teams and both enjoying recent wins, the stage is set for a compelling contest between two clubs determined to keep their upward momentum alive.
For Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, the pressure has eased following their vital 2-1 away win at Burnley last time out, a result that snapped a two-game losing streak and propelled them to eighth in the table. Manager Cesar Peixoto will be urging his side to build on that success, especially given the Wolves’ recent inconsistency—three wins in their last seven league matches have left them just outside the automatic promotion spots. The home crowd will be expecting a statement performance as the hosts look to maintain their push for a return to the top flight.
Portsmouth FC, meanwhile, have quietly climbed the ranks and now find themselves in 13th place, buoyed by back-to-back victories and their first away triumph since August. Their recent resurgence has breathed new life into their campaign, and with just a single win needed to draw level on points with Wolves, John Mousinho’s side will be eyeing another scalp on the road. The fact that this is the first meeting between these two teams in 16 years only adds to the sense of occasion, promising a fiercely contested affair full of attacking intent. With both teams in positive form and the promotion race heating up as the 2026-2027 season approaches its first real turning point, all eyes will be on Molineux to see who can seize the initiative and lay down a marker for the weeks ahead.
Fans can look forward to a tense and potentially season-defining encounter under the lights, as the battle for Sky Bet Championship supremacy takes centre stage.
