The Premier League action on April 12, 2026, delivered another day full of twists and decisive results as the final stretch of the season heats up. With the title race growing ever tighter, the relegation battle filled with suspense, and the fight for European spots wide open, Sunday’s fixtures once again showcased the league’s legendary unpredictability and the individual brilliance of its stars. From last-minute heroics at Selhurst Park to a show of strength at Stamford Bridge, the day produced numerous storylines with major consequences at both ends of the table.
Match Results
| Home Team | Score | Away Team |
|---|---|---|
| Crystal Palace | 2 - 1 | Newcastle United |
| Nottingham Forest | 1 - 1 | Aston Villa |
| Sunderland | 1 - 0 | Tottenham Hotspur |
| Chelsea | 0 - 3 | Manchester City |
The headline result of the day came from Stamford Bridge, where Manchester City FC claimed a resounding 3-0 victory over Chelsea FC. After a balanced first half, during which Chelsea FC threatened through Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, Pep Guardiola’s side took control after the break. Rayan Cherki stood out with a top-class performance, orchestrating attacks and helping his team pull away decisively. This win keeps Manchester City FC firmly in the title race, now just six points behind leaders Arsenal, with a crucial match coming up at the Etihad Stadium and a game in hand. For Chelsea FC, the defeat is a harsh reminder of the gap that still separates them from the league’s elite, as they struggled to match the Citizens’ intensity in the second half.
At Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace FC delivered one of the day’s most spectacular moments, overturning a halftime deficit to claim a 2-1 win over Newcastle United FC. William Osula had logically opened the scoring for the visitors, but it was substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta who turned the match on its head. Scoring twice late on—first equalizing in the 80th minute, then converting a penalty in stoppage time—Mateta lifted Crystal Palace FC above their opponents in the standings and increased the pressure on Eddie Howe’s struggling side. This brace confirms Mateta’s growing influence and provides a vital boost for the Eagles as they look to finish the season strongly.
In the Midlands, Nottingham Forest FC and Aston Villa FC played out a tense 1-1 draw at the City Ground. After an own goal by Murillo gave the visitors the lead, Neco Williams quickly brought the sides level. The progress shown by Forest under Vitor Pereira fuels hope in their fight for survival. While this point could prove precious for Forest, Aston Villa FC may rue missed opportunities in the race for the top four and Champions League qualification, as dropped points in these kinds of matches can prove costly come May.
Elsewhere, Sunderland AFC continued their dream season with a crucial 1-0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur FC. Riding a wave of positive momentum, the Black Cats showed both solidarity and attacking flair to deservedly secure all three points. For Tottenham Hotspur FC, this defeat marks a difficult start for new manager Roberto De Zerbi. The club remains stuck in the relegation zone and must respond urgently. This setback further clouds the immediate future for Spurs and increases the pressure on their ability to avoid the drop.
As the decisive phase of the season approaches, today’s results highlighted the constant pressure at the top of the table and the mounting tension at the bottom. Standout individual performances—the creativity of Rayan Cherki, Jean-Philippe Mateta’s late heroics, and Neco Williams’ crucial equalizer—proved pivotal in shaping the day’s action. With the title race, European ambitions, and the relegation battle all tightening, the suspense and intensity promise to rise even higher in the weeks ahead.
