LOSC making progress in Ligue 1 but still searching for the right collective formula, as anticipation builds around the squad ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
A Squad Seeking Stability
After a mixed start to the season on the European stage, LOSC is still looking for its first win in the Champions League. Davide Ancelotti’s men remain solid in Ligue 1, with four wins from six matches, although their momentum was checked by a draw against Brest just before the international break (Sport.fr, 19/10/2026). This lack of consistency, particularly in attacking play, raises questions about the ideal squad composition and the areas that need strengthening during the winter transfer window.
Ethan Mbappé, Symbol and Driving Force
At just 19 years old, Ethan Mbappé is establishing himself as the key figure in the northern side’s lineup. Having joined on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024, the forward has stood out with his ability to make a difference, as highlighted by L’Équipe after the draw against Brest, where he earned the highest rating among Lille players (Sport.fr, 20/10/2026). His absence due to suspension in the Champions League is a heavy blow, underscoring the team’s growing reliance on his dynamic profile, while LOSC’s attacking play still leaves room for improvement.
Osimhen Leading the Line, Giroud Waiting in the Wings
On Wednesday against Galatasaray, Victor Osimhen is expected to lead the attack, while Olivier Giroud, back in Ligue 1 at 40 years old, has made clear his desire to reclaim a starting spot, especially in high-profile matches like the one against Arsenal (L'internaute, 13/10/2026). This battle of experience could energize Lille’s attack, which is still searching for answers.
What’s Next
With the winter transfer window approaching, LOSC will have to make decisions on possible adjustments, particularly to bolster their attacking consistency and support the rise of young talents like Ethan Mbappé. The upcoming results in Ligue 1 and the Champions League will surely weigh heavily on future decisions, as the pressure mounts to take the next step on the European stage.
