The Bundesliga served up a true spectacle as Borussia Dortmund were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against SV Werder Bremen in front of a packed Signal Iduna Park. The home side, who had looked well on their way to maintaining their perfect start to the 2026-2027 campaign, were left stunned by Bremen’s resilience and late attacking flourish.
For much of the match, Borussia Dortmund dominated proceedings, surging ahead through Daniel Svensson’s opener in the 80th minute before Nico Schlotterbeck doubled the advantage just five minutes later. With a two-goal cushion and the clock ticking down, Dortmund appeared poised for another statement victory. However, Bremen had other ideas. Jens Reis reignited hope for the visitors with a quick response, and as the stadium clock crept deep into stoppage time, Niclas Füllkrug—making a poignant return to face his former club—struck a dramatic equalizer that sent the away supporters into raptures.
Füllkrug’s late heroics not only salvaged a point for SV Werder Bremen but also underscored his ongoing importance to the team, especially in high-pressure moments. The goal carried extra significance given Füllkrug’s connections to Borussia Dortmund, adding an emotional subplot to an already gripping encounter.
The result marks the first time this season that Borussia Dortmund have dropped points, ending their flawless run but keeping them among the early frontrunners. For SV Werder Bremen, the draw extends their unbeaten streak on the road and cements their reputation as a side capable of troubling the Bundesliga’s elite.
With such dramatic twists and individual brilliance on display, the Bundesliga continues to offer fans across Germany and beyond a captivating storyline each matchday.
